The South African Policing Union (SAPU) attends the anti-corruption initiative initiated by the
Border Management Authority(BMA) held today the 10th June 2026 at Oshoek Port of Entry and
gave a message of support. We stand proud to be part of this important initiative since we have
supported this campaign since its launch at GCIS Tshedimosetso House in Pretoria, where this critical
anti-corruption programme was first introduced and we are glad to see the show going on efforts of
being pro-active when coming to corruption, instead of being reactive
The South African Policing Union (SAPU) is issuing a stern warning to the Acting Minister of Police,
Firoz Cachalia, against attempting to reform the South African Police Service (SAPS) through
misguided approaches under the so-called "reset agenda." SAPU is deeply concerned about the
budget speech delivered before Parliament on 19 May 2026, which, in our view, failed to demonstrate
genuine concern for the interests and wellbeing of SAPS members.
The South African Policing Union (SAPU) would like to send a stern warning to Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia over his lack of consultation of organized labour. We welcomed his acting appointment during August 1st, 2025 with an open mind hoping that as a professor he will be able to take SAPS forward. We have learnt with shock and disbelief that Professor Cachalia being an Acting Minister is promising to effect changes within the police service through an announcement made in a
social media platform- specifically on TikTok. To say this “beggar’s belief” is an understatement, this is an insult to organized labour who are an important stakeholder in SAPS.
Zimbabwe’s civil servants showed up in full force to commemorate Workers’ Day, marching in unity, strength, and solidarity for workers’ rights and dignity.
The march was proudly led by Cecilia Alexander, whose leadership continues to inspire the movement for fair labour practices and improved conditions for all public service workers.
